AmmerseeBig, Beautiful Bavarian Lakes

Relaxing Trips to the Glacial Lakes South of Munich

If you want to experience Pure Bavaria at a relaxed pace, then one of these lake trips is just for you. There are three beautiful lakes south of Munich, all formed by retreating glaciers at the end of the last ice age, to choose from: Lake Starnberg, Ammersee, and Tegernsee.  Each trip includes a pleasant cruise in a comfortable passenger boat and time visiting some of the picturesque villages on the shores of the lakes. All three bodies of water have views of the Alps yet all completely different and each beautiful in their own way.

Lake Starnberg is the longest and boasts many fine lakeside homes and alpine views. A tour here is a day full of activities which can include long cruise, a visit to the place where King Ludwig II died and/or to the island where he often met with Empress Elisabeth, and a modern lakeside art museum. Starnberg is now known as the playground for the rich and famous of Munich. We end the day at world-famous Andechs.

TegernseeLake Ammersee is perhaps the least crowded and hosts many arts & crafts festivals. This is a wonderfully peaceful day with a serene boat cruise and visits to lakeside villages with their adorable churches and picturesque beer gardens. We also end the day at the beautiful and historical Andechs monastery brewery; it lies close to both Lake Starnberg and Ammersee

Lake Tegernee is a true alpine lake, completely surrounded by mountains and steeped in alpine culture.  The cruise on this beautiful lake is simply amazing. We’ll visit several beautiful towns including the “village of millionaires”. Lunch is at a lakeside restaurant and we end the day at a fantastic small monastery brewery.

The boats operates generally from the 1st of April until 20 October. With good fall weather this period may be extended.

As with all of our tours, this trip can be customized to suit your needs and interests. Please see below for options.

Please note: Bavaria’s largest lake, Chiemsee, has its own dedicated day trip. Please click here to see that tour.
