Mirabel Gardens SalzburgSalzburg: Mozart and the Sound of Music

A Wonderful Trip to the Historical Old Town of Salzburg

Let us take you on a magical day to Austria and the lovely city of Salzburg. Our classic tour includes a stroll through the medieval inner city with its internationally renowned baroque architecture. The entire old town has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list since 1996.  Salzburg is known as the home of Mozart and The Sound of Music, and of course we see highlights of that past, including the birthplace of the famous wonder child Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as well as many sites from the the movie. But Salzburg’s past extends way beyond that. Founded in the 8th century by the Irish monk Ruprecht at the site of an old Roman town, Salzburg is a truly vibrant city with a long history.

Our tour includes inside visits to some of the many lovely churches, especially the magnificent Salzburg Cathedral with its impressive dome. You have many options for lunch, including a charming outdoor market, any of the wonderful restaurants with Austrian cuisine and famous service or perhaps you would like to Salzburgdine at Europe’s oldest restaurant – serving food since the year 804! You have free time in the afternoon for shopping and exploring on your own.  Perhaps you’ll like to take the funicular up to visit the Salzburg fortress, built in the 11th century by the Prince-Bishops of Salzburg.  It is one of the largest medieval castles in all of Europe. Or maybe you’ll visit one of the many traditional coffeehouses and enjoy the famous “Salzburger Nockerl” for desert.

Even getting to Salzburg is part of the adventure, as the drive along the northern rim of the Alps is truly wonderful. We then take you into the enchanting mountains through the lovely town of Berchtesgaden on the way into Salzburg.
